Maeve is currently living at an orphanage in the Phu Tho province of Vietnam. Phu Tho is is about 5o miles north west of Hanoi. 85% of the Phu Tho population lives in rural areas.
Maeve was relinquished by her 20 year old birth mother on January 2nd. She was not married and cannot afford to raise a child. Even had she wanted to, she most likely would have been pressured by her extended family to relinquish Thi Thu. When reading translated documents there are some things that are "lost in translation". But I think the birth mother came with her grandmother.
Incidentally, Maeve's birth family is of Muong ethnicity. Muong's are a "hill tribe".
That is all the information I know. The photo's in the post below were taken on January 5th....she was only 4 days old. I have asked my agency for updated ones...maybe even with open eyes...but understandably that is not a priority. The staff in VN are busy processing paperwork for lots of families and more importantly taking care of the babies at 7 (I think) different orphanages.
